Start Time: Pacific - 12 PM, Mountain - 1 PM, Central - 2 PM, Eastern - 3 PM

Description:
·                  Have you been asked to create your library’s flyers and feel all at sea?
·                  Are the ones you have created being ignored?
·                  Are you still finding grammar and spelling errors and leaving important things out?
·                  Are you really seeing what your customers see?
·                  Looking for quick and easy ways to improve your graphic design?

For the past 20 years personal computers have allowed us to create publications of all kinds easily without requiring a basic understanding of graphic design. While the results have sometimes been less than successful, there are some quick and simple solutions to making them more attractive and effective.

During this webinar, attendees will learn how use shapes, manipulate images, and work with text and fonts to enhance their basic desktop publishing efforts. We’ll also work together on redesigning examples of library signs to make each more customer friendly.

At the end of this one-hour webinar, participants will know:

·                  The 3 basic elements of graphic design and how they work together.
·                  The 7 pieces of information that should be on every library publication.
·                  How to make publications readable and error free.
·                  How to find and use type fonts effectively.
·                  How to find, move and manipulate images.
·                 The relationship between good graphic design and great customer service.

This webinar will be of interest to library staff at all levels tasked with creating promotional materials, designing and producing flyers, brochures, publicity items, and providing input on their library’s website.

Tech-Savvy Staff: Better Service for Library Users

Date & Time: Tuesday, December 4, 2012
02:00 PM EST

Description: Would you like to help staff gain the tech skills they need in order to effectively assist patrons?

Join our webinar on Tuesday, December 4 at 11 a.m. Pacific time to find out how one library succeeded with this challenging staff development goal.

Penny Talbert, Executive Director of the Ephrata Public Library (PA), realized that the library staff needed to have strong technology skills and created a program to help them achieve competency, "Long gone is the card catalog and simple reference questions. We are now living in a technological world. When people visit the library, their questions often deal with computers and we have to be ready to serve them.

As resources and technologies change, we have to be on the cutting edge - to help patrons with basic computer questions as well as those that are working on more complex projects. This is our job as a library. We must provide excellent service in order to receive excellent support." See the Ephrata Public Library Library competency training.

On December 4, join special guests Penny Talbert and Stephanie Zimmerman to learn more about the Ephrata Public Library's successful competency training. Penny and Stephanie are both passionate believers in the importance of supporting learning in the context of new technological developments. Get ready to be inspired!

This webinar is part of a series of webinars exploring the Edge Initiative Benchmarks. This webinar is based on Benchmark 11, which includes the attribute, "Libraries have sufficient staff with technology expertise to help patrons achieve their goals."
