السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته،

تقدم جمعية مجموعات المكتبات والخدمات الفنية   Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) التابعة لجمعية المكتبات الأمريكية   American Library Association (ALA) المنتدى الإلكتروني المجانيE-forum ، بعنوان:  "Training for Resource Description and Access"، وفيما يلي التفاصيل:

Date &Time: May 14-15, 2013

Each day, discussion begins and ends at:
Pacific: 7am – 3pm
Mountain: 8am – 4pm
Central: 9am – 5pm
Eastern: 10am – 6pm

Please join us for an e-forum discussion. It’s free and open to everyone!
Registration information is at the end of the message.

Description: Catalogers and technical services departments are now fully immersed in training for Resource Description and Access. While some libraries may have resources to bring in external trainers, many organizations are taking on the training challenge in-house. Do you have the necessary training skills and creative techniques to overcome challenges related to your organization’s training and preparation for RDA? Come and share your experiences and swap ideas with others managing or participating in their organization’s RDA training efforts.

The e-forum will cover the training needs for those performing original and copy cataloging, as well as those who handle and create records outside of cataloging departments. Topics will include: deciding which staff positions need what level of RDA training, creating/customizing training materials and documentation, identifying in-house trainers, balancing strain on personnel (both in terms of time and expertise), and evaluating results.

We intend for this to be a productive dialog involving catalogers at all levels, technical services librarians, and managers, to help us learn how to teach ourselves and our staff how to create and incorporate the increasing number of RDA records that populate national and local databases.

Presenters:

Jennifer Erica Sweda, MS, LIS (UIUC); MLA (UPenn), has been Social Sciences Cataloging Librarian for the University of Pennsylvania Libraries (Philadelphia, Pa.), for almost 20 years. She contributes bibliographic (BIBCO) and name/subject authority (NACO/SACO) records through LC’s Program for Cooperative Cataloging, and is a trainer for LC’s Basic Subject Cataloging Using Library of Congress Subject Headings workshop. She has presented research at the American Library Association and Association for Information Science and Technology conferences, and has contributed an article to Radical Cataloging: Essays at the Front (ed. K.R. Roberto). Her professional interests have grown to include teaching and training (both inside and outside of libraries) and she is currently coordinating Penn Libraries’ RDA training efforts.

Dr. Sylvia D. Hall-Ellis, MLS (North Texas), PhD (Pittsburgh) has been teaching cataloging for more than 15 years. A member of professional organizations and listed in several editions of regional and national bibliographic volumes, she is active in ALCTS and served as a voting member of CC:DA for four years. Her research focus is competencies and technical skills for catalogers. She has published numerous technical reports, articles, and five monographs and has conducted major field-based research studies. She has more than 40 years of experience working in libraries as an administrator, development officer and project manager. Dr. Hall-Ellis is the Senior Grants Administrator for the Morgridge College of Education at the University of Denver.

What is an e-forum? An ALCTS e-forum provides an opportunity for librarians to discuss matters of interest, led by a moderator, through the e-forum discussion list. The e-forum discussion list works like an email listserv: register your email address with the list, and then you will receive messages and communicate with other participants through an email discussion. Most e-forums last two to three days. Registration is necessary to participate, but it's free. See a list of upcoming e-forums at: http://bit.ly/upcomingeforum.

Registration: Instructions for registration are available at: http://bit.ly/eforuminfo. Once you have registered for one e-forum, you do not need to register again, unless you choose to leave the email list. Participation is free and open to anyone.

Description:
Formerly conceived as repositories of print collections, libraries of all sorts are now providing electronic access to a wide range of digital resources. The publishing industry is changing rapidly, making fewer print options available to store in library buildings.

How will your organization or institution continue to provide value for customers using the library building? What changes are you making to physical spaces that make accessing resources easier for differently abled users? How are you determining when to reduce shelving for print collections? What alternative uses do you foresee for those former shelving spaces?

Please join us for an exciting and informative e-forum on January 14 and 15, 2013, to discuss how libraries of all types are adjusting their physical locations in response to the changing information environment. This e-forum will provide participants an opportunity to talk about what their libraries are doing to adjust to thinking of the library as place with unlimited potential. Librarians and technical services staff from all types of libraries are invited to participate.

المنتدى الإلكتروني المجاني: Discovery Tool Implementation and Selection!

Description:  The discovery interface market is exploding, with current products including EBSCO Discovery Service, Serials Solutions Summon, Ex Libris Primo Central, OCLC WorldCat Local, Blacklight, VuFind, Aquabrowser, and more. These tools (both vendor-supplied and open-source) promise faceted browsing as well as ability to integrate multiple content silos; some come with vendor-provided cloud indexes to articles, e-books, and other electronic content. The newest development is a cloud-based back end designed to replace the ILS, including OCLC’s WorldShare, Serials Solutions Intota, and Ex Libris Alma. In today’s world, tools differ not just in the quality of features provided, but in overarching functionality provided and in scope of coverage. The e-forum will address factors to consider when selecting a tool, strategies for evaluating tools, and keys to successful implementation.

Hosts:
Nara Newcomer is Assistant Music Librarian at East Carolina University, where her duties include cataloging, public services work, and maintaining the music library’s web pages. Nara has worked closely with discovery selection and implementation at ECU, including Serials Solutions Summon, WorldCat Local, and SirsiDynix Symphony e-library OPAC. She is leading the creation of the Music Library Association’s “Music Discovery Requirements” document, which explores and provides recommendations for meeting the unique demands music materials pose for discovery.

Bill Walsh is Head of Technical Services at Georgia State University Library, which implemented EBSCO Discovery Service last summer after evaluating other options. He is co-chair of the library’s discover group.

Dates & Times:
Tuesday and Wednesday, May 15 and 16, 2012

Each day, sessions begin and end at:

  • Pacific: 7am – 3pm
  • Mountain: 8am – 4pm
  • Central: 9am – 5 pm
  • Eastern: 10am – 6pm
Credits:  None.
