زوار المدونة الكرام، يسعدني اليوم أن أقدم إليكم الندوة الثانية لهذا العام من من سلسلة ندواتاتصال اخصائيي المكتبات الجُدد العالمي: أفضل الممارسات والنماذج والتوصيات  New Librarians Global Connection: Best Practices, Models and "Recommendations. وهى عبارة عن سلسلة من الندوات المجانية الفصلية التى تتاح عبر شبكة الإنترنت وتقدمها للعام الرابع على التوالي "إفلا للتطوير المهني المستمر والتعلم في مكان العمل  IFLA Continuing Professional Development and Workplace Learning "، و"المجموعة ذات الاهتمام المُشترك بأخصائيي المكتبات الجُدد  "IFLA New Professionals Special Interest Group  بالاشتراك مع "جمعية المكتبات الأمريكيةAmerican Library Association ALA".  وهى تتناول القضايا ذات الإهتمام لأخصائيي المكتبات الجدد، وجمعيات المكتبات، ومدارس ومعاهد المكتبات، ومتخذي القرار بالمكتبة، وجميع العاملين بالمكتبة.

“Open Educational Resources: Librarians as Advocates, Advisors, and Creators”

Date & Time: July 29, 2015 -- 2PM EST (1PM CST | 12PM MST | 11AM PST) 

Presenter: Mary Ann Cullen is the Director of Library Services for Georgia Perimeter College’s Alpharetta Campus and GPC Online. She first became involved with OERs in March 2013 after the college’s president challenged the faculty to find free or low-cost alternatives to traditional textbooks to help reduce costs for students. She participated in identifying, selecting and adapting an OER text for Freshman English, a project currently being expanded. Currently, she is working with science faculty on a project that uses readings from a library database in lieu of a traditional textbook.

Description: College textbooks have gotten so expensive that many students are opting not to buy the textbook at all, but are taking their chances at lower grades or resorting to work-arounds like sharing textbooks, photocopying from classmates, or finding illegal copies. An increasing number of educators are seeking alternatives to traditional texts, including open educational resources (OERs) and library resources. This webinar will introduce you to what OERs are (and aren’t) and how librarians can support this movement as advocates, advisors, and participants in creating OERs. While primarily directed at academic librarians and administrators, the information provided also applies to media specialists and public librarians who work with home schoolers interested in free and low-cost educational resources.

“Crafting a Successful Adult Education Program for Small, Rural and/or Part-time Libraries”

Presenter: Debra Kavanaugh, Adult Education Coordinator, Shreve Memorial Library, Louisiana.

Description: No matter how small a community you serve, your library can provide vital, successful adult education opportunities for patrons who lack a GED, or other high school equivalency. When the Shreve Memorial Library (LA) decided that its small, rural part-time branches should be equipped to serve patrons with the same level of instruction and resources offered in the full-time branches, the first ever Rural Adult Education Program was born. Join us to hear how the library's Adult Education Coordinator devised workable, affordable and manageable strategies to launch the program in small libraries; learn about solutions and alternatives that can be adapted to any budget, workforce, workspace and public need.

This session was presented as a preconference at Association for Rural and Small Libraries 2014 and has been adapted to fit within a 90 minute webinar.

“A CONTENTdm expert panel: Perspectives on developing success with digital collections”

* Michael Wurtz, Head of Special Collections at the University of the Pacific, will discuss his library’s John Muir, Historic Stockton Photographs and Brubeck Oral History collections. Michael will also discuss how the library uses crowdsourcing and students to transcribe materials and how to promote collections via newspapers, radio and curriculum.

* Jennifer Birnell, Montana Memory Project Director at the Montana State Library, will talk about the Montana Memory Project, which includes contributions from more than 40 institutions from across Montana. She’ll explain how library staff members share their content with Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) and The Mountain West Digital Library and how they created an education resources webpage with lesson plans and PowerPoint presentations.

* Elizabeth Gushee, Digital Collections Librarian from The Harry Ransom Center at The University of Texas at Austin, will share how her library works to create collections that encourage discovery and inspire creativity. She’ll also talk about integrating CONTENTdm with FancyBox to provide lightbox views of digitized collections within finding aids. Elizabeth will share how the staff uses Tumblr, a blog and tie-ins with physical exhibitions to promote the collections.
